Food allergies & Brands Information

We recommend Purina Pro Plan, Royal Canin, and Hill’s Science Diet, as these diets have years of veterinary research and include all essential nutrients. At our veterinary hospital, we are happy to discuss appropriate diet and feeding schedules for any stage of your dog or cat’s life. We also offer a full line of therapeutic/prescription diets for any health problem your pet may have.

Grain Free Diets
Less common carbohydrates are added to make these diets grain-free, and these diets tend to contain more exotic meat sources, fruits, and vegetables. Most of these foods have not been AAFCO certified and do not always have the same level of nutritional expertise and quality control as some of the other veterinary diets on the market. There is no research to support any health benefits to feeding these diets, except in the rare instance of a food allergy.
Some forms of Dilated Cardiomyopathy have been linked to exotic ingredients and grain-free diets. It is not clear what is in these diets or what is missing in these diets that is to blame for the increased incidence of this condition.

The brands of diets we recommend are AAFCO certified, which means that these foods have undergone feeding trials and are found to be balanced based on pet nutrition research. Every pet responds differently to different diets and we would be happy to help guide you along the way.
